In 1991, after finishing enough college hours to start trying to work in art, the internet was still somewhat new so an art portfolio was still something you carried around in a giant folder. There are a few samples of those works below but as the years pass I find that my early works were so pathetic I don’t dare share them.

Then later, after a few more college hours and the development of the internet I began to interview for positions where I could be more artistic except on the computer. Over time every job became a chore that had less to do with art and more to do with following instructions about art made up by some committee. That is not at all what I envisioned as a child who wanted to be an artist. Working in a corporate job only meant applying art skills to somebody else’s ideas. Art became less about creating something fun and more about following orders and with each job change I realized I had compromised so much along the way that I lost the art and found a job. I am grateful to have left the corporate ladder behind in favor of the life I have now.

The following images are samples of my work in digital art, pencil, oil, watercolor, wood, murals, sculpture and other mediums. They represent freestyle art, art and design for publication, photography and other genres. Some are samples from things I did at work, some were for church and some were just because…but they are all old. In recent years I tend to focus more on smaller projects, writing and grandkids.

While working in downtown Houston, I had opportunity not only to photograph the progress of the city’s construction and capital improvement projects, I also worked on brochures, handouts and other printed media like the one available for download below. As the Graphic Artist for the department I also developed the website including graphics and content for my department and designed multiple websites for various other municipal departments.
