Our family (The Brandon’s/The Ward Women) have been in the Alvin, Arcadia, Alta Loma area since the mid 1800’s. There have been multiple books written about the history of these places over the years. The original family homestead from the 1800s still stands today and is still occupied by family.
There have been a limited number of books written on the history of this area as noted below:
1. Arcadia 1890 to 1978 by Charles Meek 2002 (includes family trees for those in the Arcadia area as far back as the mid-1800s)(also lots of pictures)
2. Babe on the Bayou, by Ida Blanchette 1979 (limited copies, sometimes found on ebay)
3. The Alvin Centennial, available at the Alvin History Museum.
Ike Franks, lived across the street from the Brandon family and won his re-election while being detained in jail.
